A Skype for Business Server 2015 pool is already deployed in the topology.Customer has SBS on premises at branch sites and must upgrade them to meet specific business requirements. Please note that SBS running Lync Server 2013 associated to a Skype for Business Server 2015 Front End pool is fully supported. The process is more or less a rip-and-replace from a topology perspective. So, I thought I’d run through a scenario and see what the experience was like. Because it is defined in the topology as a Survivable Branch object, an in-place upgrade is not supported. I reached out to Microsoft and found there was no specific upgrade path for SBS from Lync 2013 to SfB 2015. The topology is pretty flat…single Enterprise Front End Pool, single Edge pool, a handful of SBAs, and then a larger handful of SBSs. I recently had a customer working through an upgrade track from Lync 2013 to SfB 2015. And while information on Survivable Branch Appliances (SBAs) has gotten to be quite bountiful, there is little specific to SBS. I don’t know that I ever actually saw one in production until recently. Honestly, I never thought much about Small Business Server (SBS).
